Respawn Entertainment and EA have released a new Apex Legends: Eclipse trailer. The trailer for the upcoming 15th season of the game features the new defensive legend Catalyst and her ferrofluid manipulation skills that allow for a number of crowd control abilities.

Watch the launch trailer below:

This week, Respawn Entertainment revealed that the next playable character in Apex Legends will be a defensive Legend named Catalyst (real name Tressa Smith). Catalyst is the game’s first transgender Legend, and has “almost magical control” over ferrofluid (any liquid that is attracted to the poles of a magnet).

This ability to manipulate ferrofluid allows her to create a number of structures and barriers with it for crowd-control purposes. In the trailer, Catalyst is shown using using masses of adhesive ferrofluid to trap enemies, erect impenetrable walls, and even protect innocents from falling debris. Whether these abilities will actually make it to the game is unknown, as the trailer features no in-engine gameplay and is comprised purely of cinematics.

Catalyst will come to Apex Legends with the Eclipse update, which goes live November 1 and  additionally brings gifting functionality as well as a new map set in Cleo, the “broken” moon of Boreas and Catalyst’s home.

More details about Catalyst and her gameplay will be revealed on October 24 ahead of the release of Apex Legends: Eclipse. The game is available now for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
