New “EA App” Desktop Client Released for Windows; Will Officially Replace Origin Soon

EA app desktop client

Back in 2020, Electronic Arts (EA) announced a new “EA app” desktop client, intended to eventually replace Origin. The new client, home to the EA game store and the EA Play subscription service, entered beta in September 2020. Today, the EA app has officially released for Windows PCs.

The new app is described as EA’s “fastest and lightest PC client to date.” It features a streamlined, modern UI focused on ensuring immediate access to existing content as well as the discovery of new games.

Through the new EA app, players can connect their EA account to their Steam / PlayStation / Xbox accounts as well, and build a truly cross-platform friends list.

Check out these screenshots of the app’s interface:

The transition process from Origin to the EA app will take place through email invites. EA will transfer players’ existing profiles, content and progress to the EA app before sending them the invite.

macOS users will still be using Origin for Mac, but it’s quite likely that EA will bring the new app to macOS systems in the future too.
