Quite a bit of Final Fantasy 16 gameplay footage was shown at a recent panel held at PAX East 2023, and this included gameplay footage of Eikon boss fights, exploration, and more. The panel was hosted by FF16 producer Naoki Yoshida and Localization Director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox.

Here’s a video showcasing all the gameplay footage that was presented at the PAX East panel:

During the panel, Yoshida himself played Final Fantasy 16 in front of the live audience, showcasing various elements of the game, including its fast travel system, load times, and various areas that you can explore throughout Valisthea. Fast travel and loading times for FF16 happened in a matter of seconds. “It’s just short enough that we don’t have to put a ‘Now Loading’ symbol on the screen,” said Yoshida, who was translated by Fox. Yoshida’s brief gameplay session at PAX East also included some combat footage using the Timely accessories, gameplay-assisting items that can be used as needed to ease the difficulty for players who aren’t used to action RPGs. He also briefly explored one of the small settlements found in-game as well as The Hideaway, an area where Clive can regroup, restock, and upgrade his items between quests.

Toward the end of the presentation, Yoshida showcased a brief gameplay trailer of the game’s Eikon vs Eikon battles, one of the game’s main highlights. We’ve already seen footage of the Ifrit vs Garuda boss fight from a preview last month, but this new trailer highlights even more Eikon battles.

The trailer reveals that players gain more moves as Ifrit as the story progresses. Aside from this, it also reveals that players will, at some point, get to pilot the Pheonix Eikon, and even fight another Eikon of Fire. This raises quite a few questions, but we’ll have to wait until the game’s release to find out the context behind these scenes.

Final Fantasy 16 is set to come out on June 22, 2023 on PS5, with Yoshida and Fox stating that they “don’t expect any delays” for the game.
