New Techland Game to Be AAA Open-World “Narrative-Driven Fantasy Epic;” Devs Share Concept Art

Techland Games has revealed that its newest upcoming game will be an AAA “narrative-driven fantasy epic with an exotic open world,” and has shared concept art from the project that shows off a breathtaking vaguely-medieval setting with what appears to be a broken planet visible in the sky.

Techland Games is famously responsible for the Call of Juarez and Dying Light IPs, and most recently released Dying Light 2 Stay Human in February last year. Having remained a private company throughout the 32 years of its existence, the Polish studio developed the successful Dying Light sequel in its in-house C-Engine and self-published the title, but has had to indefinitely delay development on numerous projects including Chrome 2 and Warhound.

With Dying Light 2 enjoying sales upwards of five million units sold only a month into release, the studio now feels comfortable debuting its next project. Its newest game has been revealed as an AAA “narrative-driven fantasy epic with an exotic open world,” with Techland aiming to “combine and refine the best aspects of gameplay” it is known for in the development of the project.

The studio has revealed no further details about the project including its choice of engine or publisher for the title, but has chosen to share a singular piece of concept art. The image features a vast vertical landscape with Orient-meets-Occident medieval architecture, as well as a fractured astral body visible in the distance. Techland’s description of the game as a “fantasy epic” lends credence to theories of possible sci-fi or magic-space themes, but such ideas will remain unconfirmed until the studio reveals more about the project.

Meanwhile, Techland’s Dying Light 2 Stay Human is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch release as well as a new story DLC both coming out later in 2023.
