Nintendo has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated Switch 2 will be revealed within this fiscal year, according to details shared during its quarterly earnings call. This means that the company plans to announce the new console by March 31, 2025.

During the earnings call, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed the timeline, assuring fans that the successor to the Nintendo Switch is still on track for an announcement. Interestingly, earlier rumors hinted that the Switch 2’s development is now “complete,” with a possible release set for March or April 2025. While Furukawa didn’t confirm an exact release date, this timing aligns with Nintendo’s plans for the console’s next stage.

Nintendo also highlighted impressive sales milestones for the current Nintendo Switch, which has sold over 146.04 million units worldwide, with software sales reaching a remarkable 1,306.10 million units. Alongside these figures, Nintendo revealed the top-selling titles on the platform:

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 64.27 million units
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 46.45 million units
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 35.14 million units
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 32.29 million units
  5. Super Mario Odyssey – 28.50 million units
  6. Pokémon Sword and Shield – 26.44 million units
  7. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – 25.69 million units
  8. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 21.04 million units
  9. Super Mario Party – 20.98 million units
  10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 17.77 million units

In addition, Nintendo adjusted its sales forecast for the current Switch model, reducing it by 31% year-on-year due to slower sales in the first two quarters. The company now expects to sell 12.5 million units this fiscal year, down from its previous forecast of 13.5 million.

Earlier leaks also revealed possible specs for a Switch 2 prototype, including 12GB of RAM, HDMI 2.1 support, and up to 256GB of storage, with rumors pointing to backward compatibility and 4K support.

Furthermore, the new console is rumored to have updated features, including magnetic Joy-Con attachments and redesigned analog sticks, though these claims remain unconfirmed and should be taken with caution. The price could also be higher than the current Switch but still lower than current generation consoles, though these details are yet to be confirmed.
