High manufacturing costs and ongoing memory shortages are continuing to create problems in the GPU market, especially for high-end graphics cards.

Because of this situation, Nvidia is reportedly preparing a price increase for its flagship graphics card, the GeForce RTX 5090, due to rising GDDR7 memory costs.

RTX 5090 Prices Could Rise Even Higher

According to reports from Chinese Board Channels (via TechPowerUp), the price increase could be around $300. This would directly affect AIC partners, meaning the companies that make the graphics cards, and in the end it would also raise prices for buyers.

As mentioned earlier, this situation is being caused by a global shortage of GDDR7 memory, which has led to delivery delays and constantly rising production costs. Until now, Nvidia had been covering part of these extra costs itself, but market pressure is now reportedly forcing the company to pass the increase on to its partners.

The package Nvidia provides includes both the GB202 graphics chip and the GDDR7 memory itself. This prevents AIC partners from having to negotiate directly with DRAM manufacturers under difficult conditions. However, this system also means that any change in costs immediately affects the final price of graphics cards sold in stores.

The impact on the market is already very clear. Even though the official MSRP of the RTX 5090 remains at $1,999, actual store prices on websites like Newegg are already above 4,000 dollars, more than double the suggested price.

It’s also worth noting that the rise in memory prices is affecting much more than just graphics cards. The gaming console market has also been impacted by these higher hardware costs.

More recently, the PS5 saw a price increase of around $100, while the Nintendo Switch 2 also received a $50 price increase due to changes in market conditions and the global situation.
