Overwatch World Cup Returning in 2023, Group Stage Set for Fall Next Year

Overwatch World Cup 2023

After three years without the event, Blizzard has finally announced that the Overwatch World Cup is back for 2023. The climax of Overwatch World Cup 2023 will occur during fall of next year, but Blizzard is set to announce the countries and regions that will compete in the tournament next month in January.

After the announcement, Blizzard will be introducing a new way for players to vie for a spot on their team via what they call World Cup Trials. There will still be regular tryouts in March, but this additional avenue for entry should entice players to sign up.

Here’s the full timeline for the 2023 World Cup, for those interested.

After the tryouts in March, qualifiers will begin in June to decide the top 16 teams that get to advance to the Group Stage. There will be more announcements planned regarding the World Cup soon, too, according to Blizzard.

Whether you’re a pro, aspiring pro, or casual player, there are tons of ways to get involved. Stay tuned for further announcements, including details about each stage of the 2023 Overwatch World Cup, viewer information, and much more!

For the majority of players who won’t be competing in the World Cup, challenges and rewards will be available next year as a form of celebration of the World Cup’s return.
