Nintendo decided to give the nostalgic fans in the audience something to look forward to in this morning’s Nintendo Direct by announcing a remake of an old GameCube classic. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be coming to the handheld console sometime in 2024.

The graphics have been totally revamped for the new version, and player can expect the game to have updated controls to suit the Switch’s layout. All in all, the remake looks gorgeous.

This remake is pretty exciting news, as it’s the first time a Paper Mario game has ever been updated or modernized. We’ve had about one Paper Mario game release per console for Nintendo since the Nintendo 64. They haven’t all been hits, but there’s no denying that it’s a beloved franchise for the Mario company. Hopefully this game is well-received, and we’ll get to see more of the series’ games brought up to date.
