CD Projekt Red has several major projects planned for its biggest franchises, but not everything related to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher may go as planned.

In the case of Geralt of Rivia’s saga, The Witcher IV, a remake of the first game and a multiplayer project are currently in development. The multiplayer project is where the biggest problems are happening.

Project Sirius, The Witcher multiplayer game, has once again been hit by layoffs, affecting almost 20 people from the team responsible for the game, previously known as The Molasses Flood.

Kotaku reports that the team working on The Witcher multiplayer game has lost an important part of its staff, either through changes in positions or direct layoffs.

Nine people have lost their jobs, while another nine developers have been moved to projects outside Sirius, bringing the total number of people leaving the development team to 18.

CD Projekt Red confirmed the changes in a statement to Kotaku, saying, “We adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development.”

This is not the first time the game has faced this situation. In 2023, 29 people were laid off when the project was restarted from scratch. Since it was announced in 2022, very few details about Sirius have been shared. The game focuses on multiplayer, although it will also include a single-player campaign.

Also, The Molasses Flood can no longer be described as the studio responsible for the game. The studio was fully merged into CD Projekt Red in April 2025 and ceased to operate as a separate legal entity, although the team working on Sirius remained in place.

Finally, Kotaku points out that the game is still making good progress despite these changes. As more information about the project becomes available, we’ll make sure to let you guys know here at MP1st.

In other news, CD Projekt RED revealed that the map size and number of quests in The Witcher 4 will be “more or less the same” as in The Witcher 3. The studio also confirmed that The Witcher 4 will feature romance options, which they aim to make “super compelling” and “very meaningful.”
