PS4 Update 5.01 Released and Is Exactly What You’d Expect

PS4 Update 10.00

Sony has released a new PS4 update for the company’s flagship console, and as one can expect from a unannounced PlayStation 4 firmware update, it’s main “additions” are stability fixes.

Bear in mind that you might need to manually prompt the PS4 update 5.01 since it doesn’t seem to be a mandatory download. The full patch notes and download links can be seen below.

Main features in version 5.01 update

  • This system software update improves system performance.

It’s a relatively small file clocking in at just 300MB (download link for direct USB installation). Fun little tidbit: these small PS4 updates have patch notes that say “improves system performance” and not the usual “improves system stability.” Also, for this one, it says “improves system performance” which is kind of new. Also, according to multiple Reddit users, PS4 update 5.01 was rolled out to squash a loophole for running homebrew, which more often than not, leads to piracy.

For the last major system firmware update called “Nobunaga,” check out the full features list right here.

If you notice anything new that’s not listed by the patch notes, feel free to leave a comment to let us know.
