PSN Down Reports Surface This December 25 as Users Get Locked Out of Games (Update)

Sony’s PlayStation Network is having issues right now for many gamers, as PSN down reports have surfaced this December 25, which is affecting downloading games, connecting to online servers, and more.

PSN Down Status This December 25, 2022:

Update: According to PSN status page (and our own testing) everything should be back to normal.

Looking at PSN service status on the official support page, we can see that the store is PSN service status on the official support page, we can see that the store is currently experiencing some issues.

While I could log into the network on both my consoles, one of them, currently game-sharing with the other system at home, can no longer boot owned titles as the process to verify licenses is also affected by this outage. Users may be greeted with the following message when attempting to boot a title that needs its license verified.

“Can’t use this content. Can’t connect to the server to verify your license. Wait a while, and then try again.

If you enable [Console Sharing and Offline Play] on this PS5, you can use your content even when the servers isn’t available. To enable this setting, select [Settings]>[Users and Accounts]>[Other]. For details about console sharing and offline play, refer to the user’s guide.”

This error isn’t one that is only happening to game sharing users either, as purchases on the network also appear to be erroring out. We suggest you hold off on making any purchases until the issue is resolved.

We’ll continue to monitor the PSN downtime for this specific service and update this post once PlayStation has issued any new updates.
