Quake 2 Remastered Rated “Not for Teenagers” in Korea

It’s like history is repeating itself. Around 2 years ago, the Quake remaster appeared in an ESRB rating ahead of its official announcement. Fast forward to today, Quake 2 Remastered has appeared in South Korea’s Game Rating and Admission Committee.

The game management committee has rated Quake 2 Remastered “not for teenagers” (translated from Korean) due to the following reasons:

FPS game at war with Stlog, a hostile alien race planning to invade Earth

  • Excessive expression of violence
  • Blood and deformation are frequently expressed in the course of combat using weapons

Korea’s rating board says that the application for Quake 2 Remastered rating was submitted on May 31, 2023, and the official rating has been unveiled just today. The only platform mentioned on the website is PC, with no mention of consoles as of yet.

Given that QuakeCon is just around the corner on August 10, and the fact that Quake Remastered was also announced during QuakeCon, it would make perfect sense for the game to be officially unveiled at the event.

Recently, South Korea’s Game Rating Committee rated another unannounced title, Lego 2K Goooal!. Thus, this probably won’t be the last time they reveal a title before its official announcement.
