Ubisoft is expanding the Rainbow Six universe, as the publisher has announced “Rainbow Six Tactics,” a new top-down strategy game set in the Rainbow Six universe.

Announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live, Ubisoft also showed us our first look at gameplay for the title that’s set to fire out in 2027.

Rainbow Six Tactics Showcases the Franchise in Strategy Form

Developed by Ubisoft Paris, the press release states:

“For the first time in the franchise, players step into the role of Six, commander of the Rainbow unit and lead elite teams of up to four operators through high-stakes assignments, from strategic preparation at HQ to tactical execution in the field. Built around careful planning, coordinated breaches, and the need to adapt as missions unfold, Rainbow Six Tactics captures the core DNA of Rainbow Six while introducing a new way to experience its iconic operators.

Developed by Ubisoft Paris, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics unfolds alongside the ongoing Rainbow Six Siege timeline, as a new global threat pushes Team Rainbow to operate on a broader strategic scale. From Rainbow’s headquarters, players assess intelligence, assign operators, upgrade their base of operations, and make the decisions that shape each mission before sending their squad into the field. Once deployed, turn-based encounters challenge them to combine operator abilities, reconnaissance tools, gadgets, and destructible environments to outmaneuver enemy forces.

At the heart of the experience is a loop that moves players between global command and tactical execution: selecting missions, preparing the right operators, resolving turn-based encounters, then returning to HQ to train the team, review intel, and strengthen Rainbow’s capabilities for the next operation.

Drawing from a roster of 15 operators from Rainbow Six Siege, players will build squads of four operators tailored to their preferred approach. Each operator brings unique abilities, specialized gadgets, and distinct skill trees, encouraging experimentation and strategic team composition. Rainbow Six Tactics’ campaign features dozens of missions set in diverse locations around the globe, and every operation brings its own challenges and opportunities. Hostage rescue, bomb disposal, target elimination, reaching every objective demands careful preparation, tactical improvisation, and precise execution. Every operation brings its own challenges and opportunities. Hostage rescue, bomb disposal, and target elimination missions demand careful preparation, tactical improvisation, and precise execution. Players can break walls to open new lines of sight, remove enemy cover, and create alternate entry points as the situation evolves. The Breach feature builds on this foundation as a decisive tactical moment: a synchronized assault that breaks the turn-based rhythm and lets all operators act at once as they storm a new area by surprise, combining operator abilities with environmental destruction in explosive Rainbow Six fashion.”

Expect Rainbow Six Tactics to be released sometime in 2027 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
