The Witcher 4 release

About a year ago, CD Projekt RED gave us our first look at The Witcher 4, which impressed a lot of gamers (including us).  If you’re hoping to play it soon, we have some bad news to share.

Today, the developers confirmed that The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window.

The good news? Gamescom is coming up tomorrow, and chances are, we’ll see a new trailer or something for it.

The Witcher 4 Is About Two Years Away Confirms CDPR

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on the official CD Projekt RED account,  studio Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed that they are targeting a 2028 release for the highly-anticipated RPG.

In addition to that, Nowakowski also announced that a gameplay showcase for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past, will be showcased at gamescom starting tomorrow. There will be RED Streams featuring the expansion, and even a “surprise or two” per the studio chief.

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that Songs of the Past will tie in to The Witcher 4, and that it will be similar in scope to Blood and Wine, which means players are in for a robust experience. There’s also cross-platform mod support still on the way as well, which should tide Witcher fans until 2028.

The Witcher 4’s release might be far off, but CDPR has confirmed a few things about it already, such as its map size being equivalent to The Witcher 3.

When it comes to future installments, CDPR is targeting three Witcher game releases in a six-year span, which we’re hoping the studio accomplishes.

On a somewhat related note, former CDPR devs have started a new studio called Rebel Wolves, and it’s headed by the former Creative Director of The Witcher 3. The game is called The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it’s set for release on September 3 on consoles and PC.

Earlier today, the studio confirmed they are releasing a day-one update adding a Performance Mode for the PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X versions that will target the game to run at 60 frames-per-second.
