Remedy Logo Facing Trademark Dispute From Rockstar Games Parent Take-Two Interactive

Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive has apparently been involved in a trademark dispute with Control and Alan Wake II studio Remedy Entertainment. The dispute, which was reportedly filed back in September 2023, accuses the recently revamped Remedy logo of being too similar to Rockstar’s own.

The trademarks for Remedy’s logo are visible online on the UK’s Intellectual Property Office website. We’ve included images of the trademarks for viewing below:

According to the trademark’s historic details, both Remedy logos were filed in May of 2023. Since then, they went through an examination and publication process before ultimately being opposed on September 12 of last year. Looking at the oppositions information, it’s clear to see that Take-Two Interactive is the company behind the dispute.

This isn’t the first time Rockstar’s parent company has done something like this. Back in 2021, the company filed a dispute against Hazelight Studios for their game It Takes Two. They claimed the game’s title was too close to their own company name and effectively blocked Hazelight from securing the title for sequels. It’s a move that seems kind of scummy, especially since anyone who plays enough video games to know Take-Two Interactive is going to be able to differentiate between the massive holding company and the indie darling Game of the Year winner.

We can’t imagine Take-Two will actually get anywhere with this dispute, but it sure is unsurprising to see them try. We’ll be sure to let our readers know if this case progresses any further.
