In a recent leak, a build of the unfinished Duke Nukem fan game called “Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded” was found online. The leak also includes the game’s editor as well as its source code.

The leak made its way onto Twitter, with a thread showcasing some screenshots and gameplay footage.

Fans of the Duke Nukem franchise may or may not be familiar with Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded. It was a fan game that originally was meant to be a “reimagining” of Duke Nukem 3D from 1996. After troubles between the developers and Gearbox Software arose, the project was eventually canceled, and we never really found out how far the game was in development until now.

Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded was designed to run on Unreal Engine 3, the same game engine used to create Gears of War for Xbox 360 back in 2006. In the gameplay footage, you can see a fleshed-out level that’s actually possible to traverse through, with seemingly completed interiors for some buildings.

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a new Duke Nukem game, with the most recent entry being Duke Nukem Forever in 2011. While Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded was never actually finished, fans of the franchise will at least get to experience what could have been via the leaked build.
