Report: Black Myth: Wukong Generates Nearly $1 Billion in Revenue
Just a few days after its launch on PC and PS5, Black Myth: Wukong had sold 10 million copies, proving to be a huge success beyond all expectations. But it seems that the Action RPG by Game Science is continuing to grow more and more, reaching new heights in both sales and player engagement.
According to VG Insights, Black Myth: Wukong has grossed $879.9 million in revenue on Steam alone since its release on August 20. This staggering figure is before platform fees and taxes, reflecting an impressive 18.3 million units sold.
VG Insights also shared on X/Twitter that the average playtime for Black Myth: Wukong is 27.3 hours, showcasing strong player engagement. The game’s success spans multiple regions, with China leading at 76% of sales, followed by the United States at 6%, Hong Kong at 1%, and other regions collectively accounting for 17%. Additionally, the game is popular among players of similar titles, with significant overlap with games like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and other Chinese RPGs.
However, there is no precise data on the game’s performance on PS5, and VG Insights’ statistics only covered the Steam version. This means the overall numbers for Black Myth: Wukong could be even higher, solidifying its position as one of the biggest successes of 2024.
The delayed Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong remains without a release date for the time being, although Microsoft itself has clarified that the delay is not due to any alleged limitations of the Xbox hardware as previously reported. The anticipation for the Xbox release continues to build as players eagerly await their chance to experience the game on Xbox.
