Report: Call of Duty 2020 Is a “Black Ops Reboot,” Health Regen in Multiplayer Won’t Be Automatic

cod 2020

Last year, word got out that Treyarch is taking over development duties for Call of Duty 2020 from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software due to the studios butting heads. Apparently, this new Call of Duty game will go back to the Black Ops franchise, though none of that has been confirmed so far.

Reliable leaker TheGamingRevolution has posted a video talking about some of the stuff he knows about this year’s Call of Duty game. Apparently, it will be a “gritty Black Ops reboot,” and will be titled “Call of Duty: Black Ops” or “Black Operations” and not Black Ops 5 as most people assumed it would be.

Aside from that, he also mentions how Treyarch will be making the campaign from the ground up, and won’t be using any of Sledgehammer or Raven’s stuff. Also, apparently, this campaign will be a “retelling of the Vietnam story” and will be seen from a bunch of different perspectives such as the US, South Vietnam, and Vietcong viewpoints. It also mentions that Alex Mason and Sergeant Frank Woods are set to return in the campaign, and will have a more grounded, realistic take compared to the Black Ops 1 campaign.

It’s said that this year’s Call of Duty will be using the same engine as Modern Warfare, and will feature higher player counts than in past Treyarch games. 32v32 Ground War is apparently returning. TheGamingRevolution has been fed info on one of the Ground War maps in this new entry, and it’s said to be a “massive” ice map, that will feature snowmobiles, and will feature tanks as well. Not only that, but that map has bunkers, a train, and will be set in Vietnman.

As for killstreaks (scorestreaks?) on the map, there’s said to be a flamethrower that’s deemed overpowered which fits the whole Vietnman setting. Now here’s a big nugget dropped by the leaker, apparently, healing in this Call of Duty multiplayer won’t be automatic like in past Call of Duty games, but will require a stim shot (like in Black Ops 4). Note that he mentions that this could change during the development process but for now, manual healing is what’s been told. Again, this isn’t Treyarch’s final decision, and things could change come launch.

Regarding the usual 6v6 maps, TheGamingRevolution states that there’s a warehouse map which once again features a three-lane design (yay!), and this map features a tower at the center where people can snipe from. Another map he’s been given info about is one that’s set in the city. While he’s unsure which city this is based on, it’s apparently it looks like a Russian city, with cars on the right side, and lot of stuff littered about. This map is said to be too big for your standard 6v6 mode, so this map will most likely be shrunken down or be converted to a Ground War map.

On to killstreaks, the ones said to be returning are the UAV, Counter-UAV, there’s apparently a “Bomber Plane” streak that will shoot out the other streaks in the sky. There’s also a dog-based streak returning to the game, though it’s unsure whether this will be a pack of attack dogs or just one.

That’s basically it in terms of Call of Duty 2020 multiplayer info. For more, watch the video on zombies and the like. Again, same with any leaked and unofficial information, treat what you’ve read here with a grain of salt, as things do change during development, That said, TheGamingRevolution has been spot-on with his leaks so far when it comes to Call of Duty, and we suspect he’s got another mole inside Treyarch this time around.

Based on what we know, Call of Duty 2020 is already being playtested according to Activision, and Treyarch confirmed that it won’t feature jetpacks of any kind.

Are you liking what you’ve read so far for this year’s Call of Duty” Let’s hope we get official news soon.
