Report: Far Cry Source Code Leaked on Internet Archive

far cry source code

Seemingly out of nowhere, the original Far Cry’s source code has been leaked online. The source code is currently posted on the Internet Archive, where it’s free to download for anyone interested in taking a look at how the nearly two decade-old game runs.

Duke Nukem modder and dataminer Vinícius Medeiros reported on the source code leak via Twitter:

Medeiros also shared the link to the source code in a reply to one of the comments on the tweet:

The original Far Cry game was released way back on March 23, 2004 as an open-ended first-person shooter, making use of studio Crytek’s own CryEngine software. As it’s been over 19 years since the game’s release, it likely contains code made with outdated practices and methods, though enthusiasts may find an interest in taking a look at that sort of thing.

We’ve had quite a few video game leaks in recent months. An unfinished build of the unpublished Duke Nukem 3D: Loaded, an alpha build of Horizon Forbidden West, and a Left 4 Dead alpha prototype have all been leaked since last December 2022. While the Far Cry source code leak won’t really amount to too much given that it’s an old title, we may get some interesting modded builds of the game in the future (Switch port, anyone?).
