While Arrowhead Game Studios has publicly said that they are going to be delivering new content to Helldivers 2 in the form of new enemies, biomes and more for free, it seems we’re not only getting that, but what seems to be a new stratagem in the form of a mech!
It seems that with today’s patch, not only did Arrowhead fix a number of issues, but they also snuck in data for new stuff in the game as well. Check out the Helldivers 2 mech gameplay to see what might be something we can use in the future in our fight for democracy.
Note that the footage is taken off-screen and doesn’t seem to feature any audio, but even so, you’ll be able to see a helldiver jump into a mech!
The uploader of the video, user fozzye18, shared that the person who was controlling the mech also showed off a bunch of things that aren’t available in the game just yet. The redditor mentions how there is a new asteroid-like event (unsure whether this is a mission or just a random event), with the explosion rivaling that of a Hellbomb. There’s also a new Helldiver NPC (non-playable character) statagem which are white suited that players can call in to help fight for them. Finally, there’s also said to be a yellow laser energy RPG that players need to “build up” before shooting, which can one-shot chargers!
Bear in mind, aside from the mech gameplay (and even that), none of these have been confirmed by Arrowhead, and could either be leftover data from old builds of the game or something else. In saying that though, the thought of controlling a mech to squash bugs seems like a very, very exciting thing. Speaking of, Arrowhead’s CEO said last week that with the servers holding up, they can now focus on “exciting things” that are incoming for players.
Our Take on the Helldivers 2 Mech Gameplay Footage:
This seems like the real deal. While there is a very slim chance that the person in the footage is a dev, it’s very unlikely that they would test something like this in live servers. Most likely, it’s someone who managed to datamine the game and fiddle with the game’s files.
Could the mech be a new stratagem? Highly likely, or it could also be something available in a specific map? Whatever the case is, color us excited! Hopefully, the wait won’t be long and Arrowhead announces something about it soon.
