Report: Journey to the Savage Planet Sequel “Revenge of the Savage Planet” in Development, Codenamed “Lodestar”
Back in 2020, the indie action-adventure game Journey to the Savage Planet made its debut on both consoles and PC, and was developed by Google first-party dev team (now defunct) Typhoon Studios. It seems a Journey to the Savage Planet sequel is under development titled “Revenge of the Savage Planet,” and we have the first details.
Journey to the Savage Planet initially released on Windows, PS4 and Xbox, and it later became available on platforms like Stadia and the Nintendo Switch. However, the closure of Google Stadia and the dissolution of Typhoon Studios left fans uncertain about the fate of the Savage Planet universe. However, a glimmer of hope has emerged after the original team behind Journey to the Savage Planet formed a new studio called Raccoon Logic.
Until this year, the project the new studio is working was unknown, but in May a sequel for Journey to the Savage Planet was hinted through a discovery in the Canadian Intellectual Property Office—a registration for a title called “Revenge of The Savage Planet.”
Now, thanks to a casting call made on the Actors Access website earlier this year, we can confirm that the sequel is being developed under the working title Lodestar. The description of the call reads the following:
Project LODESTAR (working title) is an indy videogame, a follow-up to “Journey To The Savage Planet” by Tycoon/505/Stadia Games. This role is for a short intro talking head video to play at the beginning of the game. The role is for a sci-fi formally dressed spokesperson
In addition to the this casting call, the creators of Journey to the Savage Planet have been busy casting roles for humorous in-game commercials. These spoof ads will play on virtual TVs within the game. Here are some of the roles they’re seeking:
- Slappi Xtreme Smartbot – Kid
- Slappi Xtreme Smartbot – Mother
- Nu-Grob2 – Testimonials
- Smile Syndicate – Job Candidate
- Chisler Financial – Infomercial TV Presenter
The most recent casting for the game was conducted in March 2024, which esems to indicated that development is proceeding as planned
So, while the sequel remains unconfirmed, the signs point to Lodestar as the next chapter in the Savage Planet saga. Xbox Game Pass users, meanwhile, can revisit the original title, living the zany escapades of the first interstellar explorer who dared to venture where no one had gone before or you can buy it in your platform’s storefront.
When it was released, Journey to the Savage Planet was reviewed favorably, with the game sitting at a respectable 76 on Metacritic currently.
