It seems that PvE (player vs. environment) is dead in Overwatch 2, as a new report claims that past story PvE sold so low that Blizzard Entertainment has now decided to cancel all future PvE plans to focus more on PvP (player vs player).

According to a new newsletter by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, sources have contacted him to confirm that all future PvE content for Overwatch 2 has essentially been canceled, as Blizzard has no plans to finish them.

Last year, Overwatch 2 received a paid pack of three PvE story missions that sold poorly, according to people familiar with the business, which was a major reason for the cratering bonuses. In January, as part of a company-wide reduction in its work force, the majority of the team behind Overwatch 2’s PvE was laid off.

Overwatch 2 developers were informed that the company does not plan to finish any of the remaining planned PvE content and will instead double down on competitive player vs. player gameplay, according to the people familiar.

Though many in the Overwatch community could have told you they saw this coming, it’s still disappointing for those hoping to see more content from it. If true, the question then begs, what does Blizzard plan on doing with the current stuff available? Will they issue refunds to those who purchased in, in the form of in-game currency or something else? Will they forever be stuck on the menu or pushed back and slowly forgotten?

Who knows, but we fully expect to see a statement from the studio soon if this is true.
