Report: The Last of Us Multiplayer Game Team Scaled Down as Naughty Dog “Reassesses Its Quality”

the last of us multiplayer game

With the recent news from Naughty Dog that The Last of Us multiplayer game would need “more time” in development, sources have revealed that the studio has scaled down the team working on the project as the developers “reassess its quality.”

According to a report from Bloomberg, only a small group of developers remains to work on the project while the company decides on what to do with the game. It’s worth mentioning that this doesn’t necessarily imply that the game has been canceled, but it does mean that there will be fewer hands working on the multiplayer title, as many of the former staff have been relocated to other projects. Only after Bloomberg reached out to Naughty Dog to comment on the matter did the studio release a public statement on the multiplayer project.

The Last of Us multiplayer title had been in the works for at least four years, with Naughty Dog sharing concept art of the game earlier this year. Since then, it’s been a busy year for the franchise; the highly successful TV series, which premiered mid-January, has been renewed for a second season, and a PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 was also released, albeit with some major performance issues despite the port receiving a nearly month-long delay.

With what little information we have on the multiplayer title, we likely won’t be hearing from Naughty Dog on the project for a while, or at least until the studio figures out what to do with it.
