Sony: 30% of PS5 Monthly Active Users Have Never Used a PS4, User “Engagement Metrics” From PS4 to PS5 “Significantly Higher”

Even if Sony’s PS5 is the current market leader when it comes to consoles sold, it seems we haven’t seen it at its peak yet, as Sony has mentioned that the next-gen console is luring in a lot of new players, and they’re not just gamers from the PS4 era.

In the latest financials report by the electronics giant, it mentions that 30% of the PS5’s monthly active users (MAU’s) have never even used a PS4 before, which means Sony’s audience are not just those who had a PS4 and are instead attracting new people.

In addition, nearly 30% of PS5ʼs MAUs are users who never used PS4, so, with the spread of PS5, the acquisition of new users is progressing.

In addition to that, the report also states that the “engagement metrics” (encompasses PS Plus subscription rate, gameplay time, etc.) from PS4 gamers who transitioned to the PS5 are “significantly higher.”

Engagement metrics of users who transitioned from PlayStation 4 (“PS4”) to PS5, such as their PS Plus subscription rate, gameplay time, and average spending amount are significantly higher than those when they played on PS4, so we will continue to focus on accelerating the transition of PS4 users to PS5.

With the PS5 now seemingly easier to get from store shelves, these numbers should increase even more. In other PlayStation news, Sony shared that over seven million PS5 units were sold in the last three months.
