Sony Cancels PlayStation PAX East Participation Due to Coronovirus

playstation surprise

Those attending PAX East later this month, you’ll sadly have to enjoy the festivities without Sony’s involvement, as the company has announced that PlayStation PAX East demos The Last of Us: Part II and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are being pulled!

In a new update on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has updated their PAX East announcement post, and mentions that they are cancelling attending PAX East due to COVID-19 (or otherwise known as the novel coronavirus), which is plaguing countries worldwide.

Here’s the company’s statement in full:

UPDATE: Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment made the decision to cancel its participation at PAX East in Boston this year due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”). We felt this was the safest option as the situation is changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation in this event, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern.

While this is bad news for PAX East attendees, I completely understand where Sony is coming from, and I’m glad they’re looking out for their people first and foremost. At the end of the day, these are just games and are in no way comparable to anyone risking their lives.

Hopefully, we’ll get over this COVID-19 problem soon, and things will go back to normal.
