Sony Halts PlayStation Hardware and Software Sales in Russia

Due to Russia’s on-going invasion and war on Ukraine, Sony has decided to halt sales of its PlayStation software and hardware in the country, which is what Ukraine’s Deputy PM has been lobbying for since last week. Not only does this include items in the PlayStation Store and PS5 consoles, but even the recently released Gran Turismo 7 is not available in Russia as of press time.

Sony announced this on its official PlayStation Twitter page. You can read the full announcement posted down below.

“We have suspended all software and hardware shipments, the launch of Gran Turismo 7, and operations of the PlayStation Store in Russia. To support humanitarian aid, Sony Group Corporation announced a US$2 million donation to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the international NGO, Save the Children, to support the victims of this tragedy”

Many other companies around the world have halted their products being sold in Russia too. WWE is no longer airing the WWE Network, while Microsoft, EA, and CD Projekt RED have stopped selling their products in Russia too.  It does not look like Russia is interested in stopping its war with Ukraine, so this PlayStation ban in the country could last for a while.
