Starfield FSR 3 Support Arriving This Month; New Steam Beta Branch Next Week

Starfield FSR 3

AMD’s FSR 3 support continues to grow, with confirmation that Starfield will receive it later this month for all PC players, with a beta branch going live next week.

Starfield Getting a Boost in Performance and Resolution for All Supported GPU Brand and Models

The confirmation comes from Bethesda Game Studios, who shared on X (formerly Twitter) that FSR 3 support for Starfield is arriving this month.

As Bethesda noted, AMD FSR 3 support will be available in the next Steam beta branch, with additional improvements that should help save issues.

As always, we’ll have the full patch notes up for Starfield, once the update is live, so stay tuned!

Why FSR 3 Is a Big Thing

The news of FSR 3 coming to Starfield may not be a big one to those who own one of Nvidia’s 4000 series cards, but for everyone else with a GPU, either from Intel, AMD, or Nvidia (below 4000 series), the addition of FSR 3 brings some pretty big performance and quality improvements. FSR 3 and AMD’s version of frame generation can be used on any brand GPU as long as it meets the hardware requirement. That means that unlike DLSS 3, which is exclusive to the Nvidia 4000 series, PC players can enjoy the performance boosts FSR 3 brings, including frame generation.

It may not be as good as Nvidia’s offering, but that’s beside the point, as it doesn’t require you to fork over hundreds and even thousands for a new card. GPUs that many would consider at this point to be past their life are suddenly seeing a new breath of it, even if it is just for a little bit.

AMD’s upscaling technology still may have a way to go, but one thing the manufacturer did ensure was that its benefits could be enjoyed on a wide range of hardware. No one is being locked out because of a brand or a newer and improved series released the following year.

FSR hardware scalability not only benefits PC players either, as some console games support the feature on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also rumored that the next PlayStation handheld gaming device will feature an AMD APU, which will no doubt also see some form of FSR supported on it.

Lots to look forward to with FSR 3, even if we are still considered to be very early on in its life.
