Tchia Behind-the-Scenes Video Reveals the Real-Life Inspiration Behind Its Vibrant World

Tchia behind the scenes

Tchia, an upcoming open-world adventure game, is heavily based on New Caledonia, a country found in the southwest Pacific Ocean. A recent video showcases Tchia behind-the-scenes footage from game developer Awaceb as its team travels across the country for inspiration.

In the video, we learn that New Caledonia is home to various biomes, and these biomes shaped the landscape of Tchia.

If you’re wondering why Tchia is so heavily inspired by this country, it’s actually because the founders of Awaceb come from these islands.

Awaceb, founded by two childhood friends from New Caledonia, is a small, nine-person Montreal-based studio creating a big adventure. Tchia draws inspiration from the homeland and firsthand experiences of these two friends, evoking the island nation’s customs, culture and gorgeous landscapes to create a powerful, fantastical island adventure. With a unique soundtrack and a cast of characters brought to life by talent from New Caledonia, Tchia is a true love letter to the team’s home.

In-game, you get to take control of various animals that live throughout the world, and you’ll be able to traverse areas inspired by New Caledonia’s lush greenery and landscapes. You also get to hear Drehu, a language native to New Caledonia that’s also featured in Tchia.

Tchia is set for an early 2023 release date on PS4, PS5, and PC.
