Tekken 8 Characters Popularity Revealed by Ranked Leaderboard Statistics

tekken 8 characters

With Tekken 8 having been out a little over a month, players are starting to settle into their favorite characters, specifically for ranked play. Over on Reddit, an enthusiastic user used the game’s ranked leaderboard to gather some statistics on the various Tekken 8 characters and their popularity in ranked play.

This data comes from user olbaze, someone with a history of posting ranked leaderboard statistics for Tekken 7. You can view his full post in the r/Tekken subreddit below:

Olba’s broken down a pretty big handful of stats, but there were a few that we found most interesting. First and foremost, his breakdown of the most popular characters since release is as follows:

Most Popular Tekken 8 Characters

  1. Dragunov
  2. Reina
  3. Victor
  4. King
  5. Azucena
  6. Jin
  7. Devil Jin
  8. Hwoarang
  9. Feng
  10. Yoshimitsu

These are just the top ten, but Olba’s got the full 32-character breakdown on his Reddit post. Bryan, Jun, and Lili are all just outside the top ten. On the other side of the spectrum, Zafina, Leroy, and Panda are camped comfortably at the bottom of the list.

The breakdown of Top 5 Most Popular Characters in each of the top 13 ranks showed us that Dragunov, Reina, Victor, King, and Jin were all very common in ranks Tenryu and above. Certain other characters like Azucena and Devil Jin also made a few appearances in the high-up ranks.

Olba also gave us a cumulative average of each rank division to show us which ranks are currently the most populated. Middle-of-the-pack seems to be the most common, with ranks Garyu, Shinryu, and Tenryu having the larget chunks on his chart. A bar chart of his with percentages reveals that 11.99% of players on the ranked leaderboard are in rank Garyu, making it the most common rank in higher level play.

Keep in mind, some stats in Tekken 8 are currently showing inaccurately. Director Katsuhiro Harada confirmed to us that the disconnection rate statistic is not functioning accurately at the moment, with improvements planned for an April update. It’s possible that other stats aren’t displaying properly, but as of right now we imagine we can trust the in-game leaderboard.

It’s been interesting to see how the community’s responded to new characters and which ones have really ballooned in popularity. This breakdown is unsurprising overall, but the data is always cool to see. We hope Olba continues to make these statistics posts over the course of Tekken 8’s life.
