The Blood of Dawnwalker Sequels Already Planned; Franchise Will Span Centuries, Cultures Across the World
While The Blood of Dawnwalker won’t be released until September later this year, it seems developer Rebel Wolves thinks the action-RPG will resonate with gamers, and are already planning future installments.
This isn’t only teased, but mentioned matter-of-factly in a new video and in the press release.
If you watch the CGI trailer below, it hints that future entries in the franchise will be set in the present day, and this is something the developers confirmed as well.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Sequels Will Be Set on Different Timelines
In the press release sent by publisher Bandai Namco, it states, “The new teaser trailer shows where the dark fantasy saga is heading. Players can see Coen in completely different surroundings than the ones they are used to – a modern, 21st-century setting, offering a glimpse of where the overarching plot ultimately leads. As the developers revealed, the next installments of the Dawnwalker franchise will span centuries, continents, and cultures across the globe.”
It basically confirms we’ll see a sequel and that it wil be in different timelines.
Before anyone riots and thinks the initial game will end on a cliffhanger, Bandai Namco also confirms, “This journey will end with a definitive and self-contained conclusion, shaped by the choices made by players during the adventure. The developers confirmed that the game is set entirely in the 14th century, free of cliffhangers or unresolved plot threads.”
Game director and Rebel Wolves co–founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz mentions, “I have a feeling that today’s presentation may have surprised many of you who did not expect Coen’s saga to move into modern times. However, I would like to emphasize that each installment in the series will be a standalone game with its own story, without narrative cliffhangers, unresolved plot threads, or time travel ideas. Since forming Rebel Wolves, we have been very clear that we aim for The Blood of Dawnwalker to be a self-contained story, and now, as we approach the release of the first chapter, we wanted to shed a bit more light on our wider perspective and tease where the story ultimately leads.”
Tomaszkiewicz added, “I love the potential that lies within Coen, as well as his powers and abilities as a Dawnwalker. His journey begins in a dark 14th-century fantasy world – a setting players deeply enjoy – and while it may feel familiar, the unique Carpathian Mountains setting will allow us to surprise them more than once. The next installments of his saga will bring new stories and new characters, but they will take place in different eras, locations, and cultures. Writing the narrative for projects of this scale is an incredibly satisfying undertaking. And while Coen and Brencis’ conflict will reach its conclusion in The Blood of Dawnwalker, attentive players will certainly come across breadcrumbs related to the overarching plot spanning the saga.”
In related news, Rebel Wolves has confirmed that players can involuntarily kill an important NPC due to blood hunger, which will affect side quests and the main story.
The Blood of Dawnwalker will be released on September 3 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
