The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Developer Daedalic Is Making Another LOTR Game

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Update 1.03

Daedalic Entertainment, the developer of “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum,” is apparently working on another game based on the LOTR universe, codenamed “It’s Magic,” with the game scheduled for a late 2024 release. This comes after a rough launch of the LOTR: Gollum, with middling to negative reviews from various outlets and players.

The information comes from news website Games Wirtschaft, with a reported total funding of over 2 million euros from the Ministry of Economics. Interestingly, the grant was provided for the upcoming game only, not for LOTR: Gollum. The subsidy program, which provides grants to developers looking to create video games, only launched after the game’s development.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, despite being based on one of the most popular fantasy stories in literature, didn’t exactly launch to critical acclaim, with the developers themselves citing the “underwhelming experience” that the game currently provides (you can read our review of the game here). This, of course, raises the question as to whether or not Daedalic Entertainment can release a game that’s better than LOTR: Gollum.

While the upcoming LOTR-themed game is planned for a release during the second half of 2024, it’s worth mentioning that LOTR: Gollum has been delayed multiple times, so things aren’t looking too good for the “It’s Magic” project.
