Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Length Around 14-16 Hours; Devs Said They’ve “Intentionally” Built a World That’ll Make Players “Curious to Explore”
The Tomb Raider franchise is set to return in a big way starting next year with the release of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the original Tomb Raider that not only upgrades the visuals but also gameplay mechanics and elements.
With newly integrated modern gameplay mechanics, which include a new grapple cuff that helps players navigate environmental hazards, scale vertical ledges and whatnot, does this mean gamers can expect a shorter adventure than the original?
Apparently, that won’t be the case, according to developer Crystal Dynamics.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis’ World Meant to “Draw” Gamers in, and Encourage Them to Explore
In an exclusive interview with MP1st, Jeff Adams, Experience Director at Crystal Dynamics, answered our litany of questions, and one of those is concerning the game’s length from start to finish.
MP1st: If I’m not mistaken, the original Tomb Raider was roughly 12-15 hours long, will Legacy of Atlantis be at parity? Shorter or longer?
Adams states, “I’m comfortable saying we’re somewhere in that 14-to-16-hour range of play, depending on your play style. But what I also like to tell everyone when we talk about this is not to feel rushed. We’ve intentionally built a world that’s meant to draw you in and make you curious to explore, so you don’t have to put a timer on yourself.”
Adams even notes how we live in a world of spoilers these days, and suggests gamers turn off social media for a while, adding, “Take your time. Take in the immersive ambience the audio team has created. Let that feeling of isolation wash over you, and understand that it’s part of what makes Tomb Raider so special. But yes, I understand we live in a world of spoilers, so all I can recommend is maybe turning off social media for a while and letting yourself enjoy the game. You’ll be rewarded for it.”
14-16 hours seem reasonable enough, and it could even be longer depending if players find all the secrets and whatnot right away.
Last month, developers also shared that there will be “multiple reasons” to replay Legacy of Atlantis, which should further add to its replay value.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be released on February 12, 2027, for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC.
