Treyarch Pulls Legacy COD 2XP Tokens From Working in Black Ops 6 and Cites “Stability Risk;” Community Finds Workaround for It
When Season 1 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launched last week, players found that the unused Call of Duty 2XP tokens they had stashed away from previous Call of Duty games now can be activated in Black Ops 6! Well, that was until Treyarch patched it out, which understandably did not sit well with the community.
Fortunately, a workaround to have it work was found, though it made it a lot more difficult to have it work. If you have unused legacy COD 2XP tokens and want to use it for Black Ops 6, you can still do so by doing the following steps:
Unused COD 2XP Tokens Can Still Work for Black Ops 6 With a Workaround
- Download and install Call of Duty: Warzone
- Enable the legacy COD 2XP token in Warzone
- Once triggered, switch to the Black Ops 6 client and the 2XP token should continue working for BO6 until the timer runs out
As you can see, this adds the hassle of having to download and install Warzone even if you don’t have any intention of playing the battle royale game just to have your old double XP tokens work!
In response to the backlash, Treyarch cited that a “bug” accidentally activated old COD 2XP tokens to work in Black Ops 6, but that it affected “game stability” which is why they patched it out. They are currently testing a way to implement this change correctly in an upcoming update, the studio claims.
With the start of Season 01, a UI bug allowed players to activate legacy XP tokens in Black Ops 6. Unfortunately, it also introduced some potential risk to game stability, which is why it was patched yesterday.
We realize how much players appreciate being able to redeem legacy XP tokens in both BO6 and Warzone, so we are currently testing a way to implement this change correctly in a future update. This allows us time to ensure stability is maintained before we reintroduce this feature.
This latest snag is one of the many issues that has surfaced in Season 1 of Black Ops 6. Not only did the Ghost perk inaccessible at the start of the season, but even Assault Rifle damage and range values got reverted back to their launch state! As of the time of this publication, the weapons have still not been patched to match their Season 1 values.
The skeptic in me thinks Treyarch is only enabling legacy Call of Duty 2XP tokens to work again due to the backlash from the community, and using “game stability risk” as a reason for pulling it out is just an excuse, but what do I know, right?, Mind, this was something that should have been enabled right from the game’s launch.
