Here’s something you don’t hear everyday: it seems a 44-year old Russian man has accidentally killed himself while playing a VR (Virtual Reality) video game. Apparently, the unnamed man, died falling through a glass table while using a VR headset.
Here’s what Yulia Ivanova, Senior Assistant to the Head of the Russian Investigative Committee had to say:
According to preliminary information, while moving around the apartment in virtual reality glasses, the man tripped and crashed into a glass table, suffered wounds and died on the spot from a loss of blood.
Further reporting by Russian news site Lenta.ru states that the man was playing a Star Wars VR game when he fell. and hit the glass table that caused his demise. According to the medical examiner’s report, the man continued playing the game even after his accident, instead of, y’know, seeking help or medical aid.
Let’s hope this isn’t the start of a trend where people are too engrossed playing a video game to seek medical attention when absolutely needed, and bouts of carelessness for the sake of gaming. We don’t need this kind of controversy, right?
