XDefiant: Prone Mechanic Was Tested and Considered by Devs
Enjoying XDefiant so far? For those who just hopped into Ubisoft’s latest shooter, do you find yourself looking for a way to go prone sometimes to avoid gunfire, grenades or whatever the enemy throws at you? For better or for worse, XDefiant doesn’t let players go prone, and there’s a good reason for that.
Speaking to MP1st, XDefiant dev and former pro Call of Duty player Patrick “ACHES” Price explained why the game doesn’t have a prone button.
MP1st: What was the decision behind not putting a prone position in the game? Is it mostly to prevent camping and to make the gameplay flow faster?
Patrick “Aches” Price: So prone was not in the game when I joined the project. And so it was a decision that was made prior to me being here. But yes, I believe it was something that was tested and considered, but just didn’t happen. (It) Didn’t suit the style of gameplay that XDefiant is going for.

While playing XDefiant, I admit that sometimes I wished there was a prone button so I could lie down and wait for the chaos to subside before surfacing, but at the same time, it does make sense why it’s not a feature implemented by the devs.
