With the launch of Ubisoft’s new FPS have come a slew of server issues. While you’re waiting to get in-game, you might want to spend some time in the settings to optimize your gameplay. We’ve got a quick guide for XDefiant’s best settings to make sure you rack up kills in every game.

We’ll break down the menus section-by-section for easy following. Let’s get into it.

XDefiant Best Settings Guide:

Gameplay & UI

  • Field of View – 90-120 (higher is better)
  • ADS Field of View – Consistent
  • Melee During ADS – Off
  • Aiming Interrupts Reload – On
  • Auto Sprint – On
  • Auto Sprint Threshold – 10 (or personal preference)
  • Sprint Interrupt Reload – Off
  • Slide Behavior – Tap
  • Auto-Reload Weapon – On
  • Auto-Switch Weapon – On
  • Auto-Grab Ledge – Off

The most important setting here is your FOV setting. You want to make sure that you crank the FOV as high as you’re comfortable with, since it’ll allow you to see more of your surroundings and be more aware of enemies approaching your flank.

Otherwise, having Auto Sprint on can make movement on a controller more comfortable, since it gives you one less button input to worry about. XDefiant is a pretty fast-paced game in general, so Auto Sprint can help smooth your gameplay flow.

  • Challenge Notifications – All/Completion Only
  • Damage Numbers – Off
  • Enemy Health Bars – On
  • Minimap Rotation – On (set to Off by default but operates like it’s On, so play around with this to make sure your minimap IS rotating)
  • FPS Display – Off (Turn on if using a low-end PC to test graphics settings)
  • Ping Display – On

Challenge notifications are useful, but if you’re annoyed by the visual clutter, it might be better to set them to Completion Only just so you’re aware when you finish one. We haven’t found them too obtrusive in our playtime, however, so do with them what you will.

Enemy health bars are very helpful for knowing when you might win or lose a fight, but damage numbers are largely unnecessary and can fill up your screen, so leave them off. As for the different on-screen display options, we recommend having Ping Display on to make sure you’re well-connected to your games. FPS Display is helpful for testing graphics settings, but otherwise it’s unnecessary.

Controller Settings

  • Button Layout – Brawler
  • Aim Assist – Standard
  • Aim Response Curve Type – Reverse S-Curve
  • Horizontal/Vertical Sensitivity – 60
  • ADS Sensitivity Multiplier (Low/High Zoom) – 1.00x
  • Dead Zone (Left/Right Stick) – 10
  • Acceleration Speed Multiplier – 1.00x-2.00x

Brawler is the ideal controller layout for XDefiant as it allows you to crouch with the right stick, allowing you to do so while aiming. As for the Aim Assist settings, Reverse S-Curve gives you a little more mobility while still benefitting from the features of Aim Assist, which is a big plus.

Sensitivity settings come down to personal preference, but we do recommend getting comfortable with higher sensitivities so that you can react to enemy fire more quickly and ensure that you win the fights you engage in.

Video & Graphics (PC)

  • Display Mode – Fullscreen
  • Resolution – Native Resolution
  • Refresh Rate – Native Refresh Rate
  • Reduced Latency – On
  • NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency – On/On + Boost (If available)

It’s best to play at your monitor’s native settings for maximum visibility and performance. Setting Display Mode to Fullscreen will give you a couple of extra frames, and the latency settings ensure that your inputs are as accurate as they can be.

  • DX12 Renderer – On
  • V-Sync Mode – Off
  • Framerate Limit – Off
  • Shadow Quality – Low
  • Spot Shadows – Low
  • Spot Shadows Resolution – Low
  • Contact Shadows – Off
  • Resolution Scale – 100% (turn down to 85% if struggling for frames)
  • Sharpening – 7 (turn to 10 if Resolution Scale is turned down)
  • Particle Detail – Low
  • Volumetric Fog – Off
  • Global Reflection Quality – Low
  • Local Reflection Quality – Low
  • Vegetation Quality – Low
  • Sub Surface Scattering – On
  • Ambient Occlusion – Low
  • Object Detail – 50
  • Extra Streaming Distance – 5
  • Lens Flare – Off
  • Water Quality – Low
  • Chromatic Aberration – Off
  • Terrain Quality – Medium

Obviously, setting most of these to low will ensure that your game runs at the highest frame rate possible. Terrain Quality and Object Detail are the most important to keep at decent settings, since they’ll make the biggest difference to visibility. Chromatic Aberration and Lens Flare are both purely cosmetic settings and can actually reduce visibility, so keep them off.

Matchmaking & Account

  • Crossplay – On
  • Input-Based Matchmaking – On

Having crossplay on can greatly increase your chances of getting into a match quickly, and as long as you have input-based matchmaking enabled as well, you won’t run the risk of playing on a controller against keyboard and mouse users, or vice-versa.
