Borderlands 4 Raid Boss 2 Live in the Game for Free on May 28
Raid Boss 2: Subjugator and Thol the Invincible
Subjugator and Thol the Invincible have long been languishing in their service to the Timekeeper. They’ve spent ages isolated on an island off the coast of the Fadefields, waiting for a worthy challenger to come along: you, Vault Hunter.
This encounter starts with you facing off against both bosses at the same time, but as one dies, you’ll be taken to the real boss battle. We’ll be testing your skills and endurance in this new fight, and pushing them to the limit. You can read more details in this Subjugator and Thol the Invincible article.
Subjugator and Thol introduce new legendaries, Firmware, and a new Pearlescent that can all be farmed as dedicated drops. Similar to Bloomreaper, you’ll only receive some of the gear if you can complete the fight in a short-enough time and at a high-enough difficulty level. Depending on your completion time, the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum-tier rewards you get from this chest will be increasingly powerful. You’ll be able to clearly see how much time you have left to hit a certain tier via your mission tracker.
Here’s a breakdown of the Raid Boss 2 content arriving with Version 1.7:
- Support for the addition of Raid Boss 2: Thol and Subjugator the Invincible.
- Players must complete the Main Campaign before jumping into Raid content. This will be a tough fight, so make sure you’ve got your best gear equipped!
- UVHM 7, a new level available to unlock for those at UVHM 6!
- Complete the Mission for Subjugator and Thol the Invincible in UVHM 6 to play this new difficulty.
- We’ve scaled this level up to better align with the additional gear and levels added to the game since launch.
- Multiple new pieces of gear, including:
- 1 New Pearlescent:
- Ripper SMG Jail-Broken Gatling
- 4 New Legendaries:
- Torgue Assault Rifle Lockjaw
- Tediore Pistol Shammy Kablammy
- Vladof Heavy Weapon Ordnance Flak Cannon
- Order Shield Collector
- 5 New Legendary Class Mods:
- Each Vault Hunter has a unique Class Mod in Subjugator and Thol the Invincible’s loot table.
- When the sixth Vault Hunter joins Borderlands 4 as part of Story Pack 2* in Q3 2026, a Class Mod unique to them will also be added to this same pool of possible Subjugator and Thol the Invincible drops.
- 1 New Firmware:
- Active Fire: At Tier 3, unleashing a charge weapon’s full-charge shot the moment it’s available will deal bonus damage, providing increased lethality as a reward for your precision timing.
- 1 New Pearlescent:
Ordonite Corruption Spreads Across Kairos
Ordonite corruption is spreading throughout Kairos, and as a result, new treasures await Vault Hunters, including new Pearlescent weaponry! Fight your way through the enemies of Kairos, open each and every container, and dig your way through piles of trash in search of these new Pearls. They can be anywhere!
Shared Progression Toggle
- As a refresher, Shared Character Progression was added in the 1.5 Update and allowed progression for Collectibles, Activities, Map Progress, SDU tokens, Vault Powers, Vehicle skins, and Hover Drives across all of your Vault Hunters.
- We’ve heard the community’s desire for Shared Character Progression to be optional so that starting fresh with a new Vault Hunter is still possible. This update makes this toggle available, starting today, when creating a new Vault Hunter. Thanks for your patience as we worked to make sure this feature accommodated players no matter their preference of playstyle!
- This new Shared Progression Toggle will be available when creating a New Character, after you select your difficulty. Please note that this setting cannot be changed after the character creation process is completed.
- You can see (via tooltip) if a character has Shared Progression active when selecting the save you’d like to play.
* Free for all Borderlands 4 players. Base game required. Terms apply.

Vault Hunters
General
We updated the descriptions of several Class Mods to more precisely explain how their bonuses work. Our goal in doing so was to make it easier to plan your perfect Vault Hunter build. This will be an ongoing process across Borderlands 4 as we identify items that can be better explained to improve your experience. We made other minor tweaks as well:
- The Respec Machine completely resets all augment slots alongside your skill points
- Skill Tree descriptions use the term “incendiary” for consistency
C4SH the Rogue
We are giving C4SH a big tune-up! This update helps with skill tracking, improves how your cards target enemies, and makes sure your abilities scale into the late game. We also rebalanced a few skill combinations so your combat numbers stay powerful without breaking the game’s challenge.
Skills
Infinite Bleed C4SH
We found that several skills players have been pairing with the Gamer Class Mod led to situations where enemies bled out significantly faster than we intended. There were multiple causes for this, and after taking a close look, we’re introducing updates that will result in the Gamer Class Mod functioning more along the original lines we intended. Specifically:
- Can’t Stop Winning: Triggers specifically from Gun and Action Skill damage, and applies its Critical Hit chance exclusively to Action Skills
- Sounds of Rain: Applies its Critical Hit chance to Action Skills
- Call: Excludes Status Effect damage from scoring Critical Hits
Roll the Bones – Green Tree
- Serendipity: Healing missiles from Serendipity heal C4SH if you kill an enemy while driving a vehicle
- Tooth and Nail: Applies its bonus melee damage whenever you fire the Maliwan Shotgun Mantra
Luck of the Draw – Blue Tree
- Sleight of Hand:
- Magic Missile Cards hit Splice enemies that have lost their upper bodies
- Fireball Cards create Ruptures on the ground when striking a floating enemy or large Bosses
- We’ve updated the skill description for consistency and clarity
- Sweeten the Pot: Windfall grants an extra random element when the Color Spray Card triggers more than 10 times
- C4SH Game: Allows Fortune bonuses to scale higher, rewarding you for earning bigger Fortune stacks
- Ace in the Hole: This is no longer a Fortune skill; the Gun Damage bonus is based on the number of stacks, rather than the Fortune ratio, and we’ve updated the skill’s description appropriately
- Bet on Red: Vampiric Touch Cards kill standard enemies instantly and deal critical damage against Badasses in Windfall; these cards also leave Ordonite Crystals attached to enemies intact
- Payout: This has been updated so that it buffs all active Fortune skills
- Furious Fingers: Adds charges when Windfall is triggered and removes them when the skill is inactive; please be aware that the charges will appear on the Action Skill icon even when the skill is not active
- Ante Up: This skill description has been updated to list it as a Fortune Skill
- Big Pull: Both the range and damage will be increased for Black Hole Cards while the Big Pull augment is equipped
- Insurance: Corrected a typo on the shield recharge delay amount
- Wretched Shadows: Creates Grasping Tentacle Cards in the correct location, as well as ensures they will attack enemies with crystals
- Dead Man’s Hand: Bone Splinters will appear and do kinetic damage
- Show Your Hand: Increases the duration of your Action Skills
Chaos Walking, Red Tree
- Cross-Fire: Features better lock-on tracking against orbs, projectiles, crystals, interactables, as well as Vile Lictor, with Cross-Fire. This will keep you destroying everything in sight!
- Auto-aim will turn off when the target is destroyed
- C4SH’s recovery animation will play when the Action Skill ends
- Jumping into water will preserve your Action Skill Cooldown
- Show your Marrow: Capped the amount of stacks to four (4) and ensured that stacks will expire
- From Gloam to Glow: Increases your maximum Overshield by +8% with active weapon fire dynamically using a portion of that shield to power your shots
- And Hell Followed With Him:
- Added Max Stacks to the skill based on current max Fortune stacks
- If you gain increased Max Fortune stacks, they will also increase here
- Stacks have been given an active duration and the skill will trigger Windfall
Class Mods
- The Elite Gamer Class Mod activates its bonus effects exclusively on Gun Damage. We updated the description accordingly!
Amon the Forgeknight
- Endless Bombardment: Preserves your grenade cooldown timers during rapid throws, and your menu accurately displays your maximum charges when extra grenades are refunded
- Onslaughter Action Skill: When coupled with the Impetus passive, this Action Skill successfully boosts your Shield Regeneration Rate when triggered
Harlowe the Gravitar
- Group Study: HALO Sidekicks move to stay out of your line of sight, keeping your view clear during firefights
- Force of Will: This no longer dazes Harlowe when in combat
Rafa the Exo-Soldier
- Collaborative Ignition: Applies bonus elemental damage to skills and Ordnance based on the element of the held weapon while Overdrive is active
- Shock Market: Deals Bonus Shock Damage when directly hitting an enemy with Shock Damage
- First Impression and Vitriol: These two skills function properly with the first shots fired from Daedalus’ weapons secondary fire mode
Vex the Siren
Skills
- Energy Vampire: This targets additional types of enemies
- Dead Ringer: Specter and Reaper companions properly display their health and duration bars on all platforms
- Sacrificial Essence: Preserves your stacks when Dashing, with the damage taken has been reduced to 2%
- Unsealed: Trouble’s marks will fade away cleanly on death
- Blood is Magic: Description has been updated to display that its power scales up using Skill Damage, not Action Skill Damage
Class Mods
- Misericorde: Grants a stack of Misery on Vex’s critical hits, including those scored by Trouble, Specters, Reapers, and Eldritch Blasts from Incarnate
- Illusionist: Cooldown has been reduced to 30 seconds from 90 seconds
Gear
General
- Vending machines and lootables have a chance to drop gear with Atlas, CoV, and Hyperion parts and enhancements
- RepKits with Overshield Augments will just grant Overshield
Pearlescents
- Crazed Earl Shotgun: Item card has removed mentions of element damage and chance for accuracy
Daedalus
- Bod Shotgun:
- Dev Note: We’ve been looking at this piece of gear for some time now. Given that this gun simultaneously counts as an assault rifle, pistol, shotgun, sniper rifle, and SMG, we saw it quintuple dipping from bonuses derived from generic Gun Damage. We decided not to change that this gun can still be counted as each of those weapon types simultaneously, but we did elect to reduce how the Bod scales with generic Gun Damage.
- The Bod’s damage scaling from Gun Damage will decrease by about 60%
- The increased damage tied to specific gun types still scales appropriately at 100% (Assault Rifle Damage, etc.)
- Mercredi Assault Rifle: When transitioning to different areas of the world, the buff icon will stay visible
- Missilaser Shotgun: The laser will fire from the correct place while moving
- Daedalus SMGs with Atlas underbarrels maintain their full reload speed
Jakobs
- Blood Moon RepKit: Consistently heals after taking damage
- King’s Gambit Pistol: The orb from the Holy Hell unique ability has been updated to only register a single hit at a time
- Dev Note: Of note is that this will impact, among other interactions between skills and weapons, Rafa’s Double-Ought Autoshot skill. Specifically with the orb only registering one hit at a time, the increased pellet count from Double-Ought Autoshot and its other ricochet projectiles will deliver damage more in-line with what was intended when using this weapon and skill combination.
Order
- Roulette Pistol: When going through any in-game transition, the buff icon will remain on-screen
Ripper
- Roil SMG:
- Dev Note: Previously, if your gun was already overheated and you tried to reduce heat by switching firing modes, you were prevented from doing so and the magazine was effectively locked up. To change this, we’ve modified the timing of when the gun starts to repair.
Tediore
- Anarchy Shotgun: Mutualism stacks apply at the end of the reload animation rather than at the beginning
- Visual effects from shooting Tediore Pistols, Assault Rifles, and Shotguns have had their brightness reduced
Torgue
- Sticky Projectiles: Capped the stacking Torgue Sticky bonus to 200% damage
- Dev Note: This decision was made to prevent infinite damage scaling that occurred with builds that benefited from infinite magazines. This change equates to about two full magazines of stuck projectiles, which is more in-line with our damage expectation for this feature.
- Linebacker Shotgun: Kills with the bouncing projectiles add progress towards the “YEAH! HELL YEAH!” challenge
Vladof
- Vladof Heavy Weapons with Elemental and Additional Barrels traits have updated descriptions on their item cards
