If you’re looking to check back and play a classic game in the Far Cry series, you might want to make it Far Cry 3. Ubisoft has issued game update 1.03 for Far Cry 3 Classic Edition, and this adds 60 frames-per-second for free.

Check out the trailer for this new addition to the classic first-person shooter, which might be good enough to warrant a replay for some.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition Receives Update 1.03 in January That Adds 60fps

Aside from applying a 60fps improvement, don’t expect any gameplay-related changes.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Far Cry 3, here are some of the game’s features straight via Ubisoft:

An Open World First-Person Shooter

Create your own FPS adventure. Customize your weapons, your skills and your approach to each mission, whether you favor intense run-and-gun action, stealthy close-up takedowns or long-range sniping.

AN ISLAND OF DANGER AND DISCOVERY

Explore an island playground as stunningly beautiful as it is diverse – from mountain ranges to swampy grasslands and white sandy beaches. Fight your way through the island’s towns, temples, river ports and more.

UNCOVER A MEMORABLE STORY AND AN INSANE CAST

Encounter a diverse and realistic cast of characters, including one of Far Cry’s most notorious villains: Vaas Montenegro. Dive into this deep and enriching story where morals are questionable and hope is all but abandoned.

Play with Friends in a Full Co-Op Campaign

Play online or split screen and team up in a four-player campaign which challenges you to be your best and work together to prevail. Experience the island through the eyes of a wayward crew in their own quest to survive against the odds.

When it comes to reception, Far Cry 3 fared very well, earning an average score of 90 on Metacritic at release in 2012.

Aside from Far Cry 3, another old Ubisoft title that received a signifcant update recently is the first The Division. In December of 2025, Ubisoft released a performance improvement patch that benefited PS5 owners.
