Fortnite New Update 5.00 Released on February 5
Fortnite update 5.00 is now out for version 39.40 this February 5, and this adds new content and a slew of gameplay changes to Battle Royale.

Fortnite’s February 5 Update Applies 5.00 Gameplay Changes
Starting now, love and legends collide in Fortnite as Valentine’s loot meets loot from the legendary Seven and HUNTR/X. Take up an MK-Seven Assault Rifle or Rumi’s Empowered Sword… and earn lovely rewards by logging in and exploring the map with friends!
>Log in on ten different days from now to February 19 at 4 AM ET to immediately unlock a reward each login. The first nine rewards are level-ups, and the tenth is The Sweetest Shot Loading Screen!
Play as duos, trios, or squads in Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, OG, or Blitz and collect enough Candy Hearts on the map across matches before February 23 at 9 AM ET to unlock the Heartie Back Bling.
In addition to Valentine’s loot like the new Lock On Assault Rifle and FlowBerry Mist Grenade, HUNTR/X are back with their gameplay items available now in unranked Battle Royale, unranked Reload, and Blitz. Starting February 6 at 7 PM ET, look out for new HUNTR/X Outfits in the Shop based on their “Golden” looks. Jinu of the Saja Boys will be in the Shop too, with a Demon Jinu alt Style…
Fortnite Balance Adjustments and Bug Fixes in Update 39.40/1.000.211
Crash Pad Jr. will be vaulted and Shockwave Grenades will be unvaulted in Unranked Battle Royale in v39.40. We’ll keep evolving the movement meta with fun, healthy, high-energy options that open up exciting plays and clutch moments. And yeah… we’ve got some very cool mobility ideas cooking that we can’t wait to tell you about in a future game update
Submachine Guns will receive significant buffs across the board. For a while now, Submachine Guns blurred the lines with Assault Rifles in typical player loadouts. With this update, we expect SMGs to perform faster, snappier, and a viable up close option with fun run-and-gun capabilities.
- Holo Rush SMG will deal more damage per shot, have a larger magazine, and handle faster; making it snappier to pull out and aim.
- Flex SMG will deal more damage, have a larger magazine, and handle faster to match other SMGs in the category.
- Dual Micro SMGs will deal more damage and have a larger magazine with slightly faster handling.
Tactical AR and Enforcer AR will both deal more damage. We’re continuing to close the gap between the Deadeye AR and other weapons to give you more meaningful choices in your loadout.
Tactical Pistol will deal more damage, retain damage better at range, and aim down sights faster; giving it a fighting chance against the competition.
Sovereign Shotgun will fire slightly faster while aiming down sights for a smoother feel.
Stealth Splash will last significantly longer and you’ll be able to carry more of them (Lock On Rifles?! 😉).
All-Terrain-Kart health will be increased to make it more durable across all game modes.
Fortnite Bug Fixes in v39.40 (alongside new content)
- Mantling and Hurdling sound cues will be returned to regular volume levels.
- Audio of weapons firing will correctly play in BR after playing a Creative/UEFN match.
- Fixed an issue where recoil on some weapons will no longer incorrectly reset your reticle back to the original firing point, causing aim problems.
- Fixed several Emote, Locker and audiovisual issues that will no longer occur after playing Crown Jam.
- Fixes to lag when navigating the lobby, locker, and emote wheel. We’re also adding a new Favorites tab to the emote wheel, so you can have quick access to more smooth moves.
- Vehicle buttons will now be present when an old HUD layout is used on mobile devices.
There are still issues being investigated, which we’re expecting to be fixed in another update.
