Ghost of Yotei New Update 1.604 Unleashed and It’s a Big Download
Out of the blue, Sucker Punch Productions has released a meaty download for Ghost of Yotei today, August 13. Players will see the file Ghost of Yotei update 1.604 available now, and it’s over 30 GB!
This new update comes hot at the heels of a new Complete Edition version of the game set for release on October 1, which will add a slew of new content, including a new narrative experience called “Echoes of Sekigahara.”
We’re not expecting that to be part of today’s download, and for those who aren’t interested in the Complete Edition or its upgrade for existing game owners (priced at $15), Sucker Punch also promised a game update on October 1 that will bring new features.
Ghost of Yotei Receives Patch 1.604 on August 13
Update: Sucker Punch still hasn’t said anything about the patch, but based on what we know, they’ve added the following so far:
- Added a new charm
- Added a new armor set (Snake), which was only available as a pre-order bonus previously
- Added a new dye (black purple onryo from the Deluxe Edition)
Once we get more info, we’ll update the article.
For now, Sucker Punch hasn’t said anything about the patch yet, which is odd. While we aren’t expecting non-Complete Edition buyers to receive the content, there is a chance that the file needed for it is part of a game update, which is required for anyone to download and install, seeing as it’s part of the Legends mode.
If so, that is a bit odd given we’re just in August, and the new content isn’t due out until October 1.
For reference, here’s what to expect from the Complete Edition and the update set for base game owners.
Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition ($69.99)
Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara is our new narrative expansion. Split between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the mainland, you’ll meet Nagato, a figure from Atsu’s past who has arrived in Ezo. In the present, you’ll explore a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his gang of loyal followers, the Vipers. In the past, you’ll experience Atsu’s time in the Battle of Sekigahara and a key moment in her life before she returned home for her quest for vengeance. You’ll meet new enemies and find new heavy weapons, new armor sets, new dyes, and more.
Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted is a brand new single-player combat survival mode, our spin on a roguelike. You’ll accept bounties in order to start new runs, where taking down enemies will earn you perks, as well as unlock additional characters to play as. We’ll have much more to show soon, but as you can see in the trailer today, Atsu is a master with the dual katana, while Oyuki excels with the kusarigama, and Nagato shines with a yari. We love to watch the amazing combat reels that have been shared with us on social media, and can’t wait to see you all try to perfect these runs.
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition also includes all of the in-game content previously included in the Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as the Charm of Hokkyokusei. If you purchase by September 30, you’ll also get an early unlock of the Sakai Armor on October 1 for Atsu to wear, a throwback to Jin’s family armor from Ghost of Tsushima.
Other stuff included in the Complete Edition include:
- New tracks for Watanabe Mode that will be available throughout the entire game when the mode is enabled.
- New photo mode stamps
- Additional cosmetics for New Game+, and new Trophies for both Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted.
Ghost of Yotei Base Game Owners Will Still Receive New Content Even If They Don’t Buy the Complete Edition Upgrade
The new patch that’s set for release on October 1 will add the new Beauty of Yōtei mode, which allows for a screensaver-like view of the environments of Ezo to keep on and relax at home (and take stunning new Photo Mode captures).
There are also new quality-of-life additions, which include the option to keep an armor set’s appearance while using a different set’s stats, a new high-contrast accessibility option, and we’re assuming bug fixes.
If Sucker Punch releases anything official about today’s update, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

After installing the 30gb update the game went from 106.5gb to 107gbs lol. Literally a “patch” then that replaced a lot of stuff without increasing the overall size by much.
