Red Dead Redemption New Update 1.002

Out of nowhere, Rockstar Games has released Red Dead Redemption update 1.002 (complete version 1.002.000), on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S today, February 24.

We can confirm this update is only out for current-gen consoles and not the PC, and last-gen versions.

Given the game’s age, don’t except any new content, as this deals with technical issues more than anything else.

So far, Rockstar Games has not acknowledged today’s update, but we do know what it fixes on both platforms.

Thanks to community members, we know today’s patch adds the music on the game selection screen on PS5 (it was only available on the PS4 version previously). On Xbox Series X|S, the patch fixed a bug where the pause menu sounds would sometimes not play.

Other than that, there’s no mention of new content or major gameplay-related fixes, which isn’t surprising.

Red Dead Redemption was released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S in December last year, and was offered as a free upgrade for those who owned the title on PS4, Xbox One. Those who owned the game on previous gen consoles who had save data, they can use that on the native current-gen version and continue where they left off, which is a nice touch.

Some of the new features of the native PS5/Xbox Series version include:

  • 60 frames-per-second experience
  • Enhanced image quality
  • HDR (High Dynamic Range) support
  • Resolution reaching up to 4K

If Rockstar releases a proper changelog for today’s update, we’ll add it to the article.
