Hazelight Studios’ latest game Split Fiction is currently one of the best-rated games of the year, and has sold enough to call it a success. Given it’s not a live-service title and isn’t really poised to get any expansions, it’s surprising to see the game got an update today. Console owners will see this as Split Fiction update 1.500, which is a small download on all platforms.

While this should be a small download on PC as well, there are issues that are causing gamers to lose disk space when trying to apply the update.

Split Fiction’s Latest Patch Version 1.500 Is Causing Disk Space Issues

Oddly enough, the studio has not mentioned anything regarding today’s patch, so we’re all left wondering what’s in it. Unfortunately for PC gamers, not only did we not get patch notes, but they are also experiencing disk issues, which is something EA acknowledged.

On the game’s Steam board, “Joe_EA” mentioned, “There appears to be a glitch with the update on Steam right now. We are looking into this. If players are getting the not enough space to install warning, we recommend uninstalling the game and reinstalling it.”

Players are reporting issues where they see the game’s size balloon up to 80 GB. The actual patch should be around 700mb, but players are seeing an error where the game client is asking gamers to redownload the entire game!  Even the game’s community is left scratching their heads on what got changed with today’s patch.

The last update released for Split Fiction was in March, which had the following changelog:

  • Fixed the rolling wheel in “Royal Palace” to improve experience when playing with more than 150 FPS.
  • Fixed the magnetized harpoon in “Down the Rabbit Hole” to take into account camera sensitivity settings for aiming.
  • Fixed not being able to stand inside the big pots in “The Legend of the Sandfish”
  • Fixed several minor visual glitches and pops visible during online play
  • Improved the tutorial prompts in “Walking Stick of Doom” to be more clear about available actions.
  • Various localization and subtitle fixes across all languages.

Given the size, and how the game is feature-complete, today’s patch should be for bug fixes and possible performance improvements. If we get anything from EA officially, expect the article to be updated.
