Sledgehammer Games To Introduce Purchasable “Advanced Supply Drops” In COD: Advanced Warfare

Soon, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare players will be able to directly purchase in-game armor and weapons by spending a few real life dollars on what developer Sledgehammer Games is calling “Advanced Supply Drops”.

The studio plans to roll out the update in the near future, allowing players purchase these drops from the in-game store in addition to earning normal Supply Drops through regular play. Here’s what’s guaranteed to be inside every Advanced Supply Drop purchased:

  • Three items
  • At least one weapon variant
  • At least one Professional rarity item or better
  • All items come with their own Armory slot; all items can be redeemed for XP

Also inside is the chance to score unique cosmetic gear only found within Advanced Supply Drops, including the Eco Custom Exo, items from the Arctic Gear set, and more.

Players will be able to purchase drops in bundles of three, five, and ten, with “certain bundles including bonus drops,” says Sledgehammer. Purchase quantities will be limited as the update rolls out, though that limit will be removed after a few weeks. Pricing has yet to be announced, but we expect more updates shortly.

UPDATE: Advanced Supply Drops will be sold individually, or in bundles of three, five, and ten at $1.99, $5.99, $9.99, and $19.99, respectively, according to Activision. Advanced Supply Drops will also be awarded to players at ranks 20, 30, and 40, as well as after reaching a new Prestige level.

While the introduction of micro-transactions in Advanced Warfare might sound ‘pay 2 win’ to the ears of many, Sledgehammer Games promises that “Advanced Supply Drops are optional and do not affect the balance of gameplay.” What are your thoughts?

Earlier today, Advanced Warfare was updated to introduce new Master Prestige ranks and to provide players with new ways to earn Elite Weapon Variants.

    So it’s counter strike now?

    • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

Mmmm, close, but not quite. CS:GO crates offer only weapon skins, if I’m not mistaken — strictly aesthetic. The issue people are going to take here is that Advanced Supply Drops will include weapon variants that include new weapons skins AND stats, some of which can be considered “better” than others.

      • PuddingAuxRais1ns

Yep. Some weapon weapon variants are statistically superior in every way.

      • DerpDetector

        Bingo.

      • Sniper

Will the advanced supply drops earned through ranking up be delivered retroactively?

        • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

          Doesn’t look like. Just checked.

  • Guest

Dont care, if you need elites you’re bad.

  • iM Vuze

This is exactly what Madden does with it’s MUT mode. It’s a money making machine for EA and it looks like Activision wants in on it.

  • Primey_

Most of the variations suck so if you feel like paying money for a crappy variation of a crap gun then more power to you It’s not p2w.

    • DerpDetector

Pay $ and get gun with better stats = P2W, dingaling.

      • NuttyTheSquirrel

        “BETTER STATS”.

Having one more point in fire-rate and one less in stability isn’t “better”.

  • DerpDetector

    LMAO

    • Herpslayer

      Off ya go.

  • OldManLight

BANG ! that there was another nail in that cod coffin lol

  • ROCKMONEY

    I told everybody that Microtran$action$ were coming…

    • That guy you might know

Damn you called it so hard.

      2 points.

  • Harrison King

When I first saw news on this I became really disappointed with SH. Mainly because they said maybe a month or two before the release of AW that they would NEVER have micro-DLC with buying supply drops. Such a disappointment.

Elite weapons are better then the stanard. That’s P2W Sledgehammer.

    • http://www.youtube.com/NQSBlackout Blackout Edits

Technically, it isn’t P2W since you’re getting a random weapon. It doesn’t say it’s going to be elite. Only one item is going to be proffesional OR better.

      • OldManLight

here’s what you do if you’re a new player.
1.) Unlock the ASM1 (sub machine gun class)
2.) get 200 kills with the base ASM1 to unlock the “Magnitude” variant.
3.) Go win every god damn gunfight ever because that’s all anyone uses anyway.

elite variants are not game breaking. If anything they’re all just trying to keep pace with the ASM1.

        • Guest

Magnitude is trash, base asm1 ftw

    • ODB BooF

You could consider it pay to win if you don’t sit down and think for a second. Pretty much everything you get in ASD you can get in regular ones. I’m new to the game so don’t quote me on that. But either way, I get ak r.i.p 2nd regular supply drop. I’m just about to hit prestige 3 and I have almost every wep I want in the game without purchase of ASD. I play pc so I don’t even have the option to buy and if I did I would just for the cosmetic loot 😀 shit players always complain. A real player never blames his wep! Shit I tend to run the standard RW1 and hold a steady 1.5- 2 kdr. It’s not pay to win! Just gives shitters a extra excuse for why they are shit.

  • Mr. Thuggins

So, are these just CoD’s version of Battlefield Shortcut Kits?

    • NuttyTheSquirrel

No. These are the CoD version of BF’s Battlepacks.

      • Mr. Thuggins

Dammit, I always get those mixed up. That’s what I meant to say. Thank you.

      • ColonelBazz

Yeah but qbattlepacks are waaaaay better. They only give you camo’s emblems, patches. Sometimes vouchers for an attachment or so. Not giving OP weapons. And you get plenty of them while playing not just one once in a while + they don’t sell them for real money so the other people can start the gambling game to win a Super Weapon…

  • iti

This article says that you’ll get these supply drops for every 10 levels past 10 and prestige. Will I be rewarded for all of those milestones that I have already passed?

    • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

Checked earlier today. Looks like it doesn’t :/

  • MegaMan3k

    Not surprised.
This crap never meshed very well with COD anyway, imo.

Advanced Warfare is such a let down on nearly every level [MP wise, I thought Campaign was actually surprisingly decent]

    • NuttyTheSquirrel

The campaign was one of the best (in terms of missions).

The variety was amazing. It was one of those games where I just blasted through the campaign.

In terms of story, it was decent, but very cliche. You could see the plot a mile away.

    • OldManLight

you do know you can double jump and you have a jet pack that allows you to boost/dodge, right?

  • Joseph Lan

Eww, yuck. You can’t even pay me to play this lag-filled, garbage game. I haven’t even ever bought COD DLC. Now they expect me to pay for in-game cheats?

  • Collin Peterson

SH also told us there wouldn’t be quickscoping, that clearly wasn’t true, so I’m going to go ahead and assume they’re lying about this not being “pay to win” as well.

    • NuttyTheSquirrel

      It’s not pay to win.

You already have the guns. They only have minor changes. Mostly visual.

      • Collin Peterson

        Keep telling yourself that.

    • Guest

Sniping isnt viable ya nub, only in snd, is when its viable

      • http://people.ign.com/lord_turdsley Lord_Turdsley

LOL. Ok bro. I’ve been playing this franchise since 2003(online since 2005). Sniping is plenty viable unless you’re a scrub. Get on my level.

        • Guest

          Not really, casual.

  • Leon

    No AW, no crying.

  • NuttyTheSquirrel

    I FUCKING KNEW IIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

when are they coming to xbox 360?

  • thatoneguy

Congratulations Activision you earn 1 star out of 5. You may purchase more stars for $1.99.

  • whaaa

Elite versions are not much better than the normal version. I go 57+ kills, 2 paladins per game with non elite weapons. So, if you think the weapon makes you better, your just probably bad and can’t get more than 10 kills a game.

  • Jeffrey Grimes

Oh fuck’s sake… FIX THE GAME, YOU FUCKING TWITS! STOP SHOVING THIS GARBAGE DOWN OUR THROATS AND MAKE A FUNCTIONING GAME.
