Call of Duty: Ghosts – Activision Sells $1 Billion Into Retailers And Becomes No. 1 Xbox Live Title on First Day

“Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it’s launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular,” reads a recent press release from publisher Activision.

$1 billion may sound like a lot, but it shouldn’t be mistaken for the amount the company has earned through sales of Call of Duty: Ghosts, but rather, the amount that has been sold to retailers to then sell to the consumer. Ghosts may not have been able to overtake Grand Theft Auto 5’s current record of $800 million worth of copies sold within its first day and $1 billion worth of copies sold within the first three days, but we’re certain we’ll be hearing of some decent sales numbers further down the road.

It will also be interesting to note what sort of numbers Activision will pull with Call of Duty: Ghosts sales on the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.

Since its release, Ghosts has shot to the No. 1 spot as the most played Xbox Live game, according to Microsoft, and sees longer average player sessions than either Black Ops 2 or Modern Warfare 3 during the same period.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launched at 15,000 midnight openings around the world on November 5.
