A Lot of Gamers Played the Destiny Beta, Nearly 5 Million

It turns out that a lot of people played the beta for Bungie’s upcoming epic shared-world shooter, Destiny.

That’s a good thing, as Bungie hopes to use lessons learned and experiences gathered throughout to ensure a smooth-as-possible launch as millions of gamers log in to Bungie’s brave new world on September 9.

According to a press release sent to MP1st, 4, 638, 937 gamers across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 participated in the Destiny beta by the end of the beta’s conclusion on Sunday, July 26. It opened up first to PlayStation gamers on July 17 before opening to Xbox Gamers on July 23.

“This is the biggest beta of this console generation by a wide margin and the largest console beta ever for a new video game IP to date,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.

Destiny launches on September 9.
