Earlier today, Treyarch rolled out a big Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 patch, which not only introduced Contracts in multiplayer, but also introduced Blackjack’s Stashes in Blackout. While this should be a new feature that the Blackout player base should embrace, it unfortunately introduced a pay-to-win element in Blackout.
In Treyarch’s introduction of Blackjack Stashes in Blackout, there’s a certain restriction that makes it so that you can only use that weapon if you have unlocked it yourself from Reserves (Black Ops 4’s loot boxes). Here’s Activision’s explanation of Blackjack Stashes and how they work in Blackout.
New Feature: Blackjack’s Stashes. Each player will be able to unlock one of Blackjack’s Stashes per game, which contains all the Black Market weapons in your inventory. For instance, if you’ve earned the Vendetta in the Contraband stream, it will be available for you to grab during a Blackout match in one of Blackjack’s Stashes.
Nope, you can’t pick it up if another player dropped it, and you can’t find it anywhere in the map. This means that some of the best guns in the mode (Blackout) can only be used by people who got the gun via the Black Market Reserves, and given how hard it is to earn these Reserves, more often than not, the people who have these said guns didn’t earn these weapons, but rather, bought them with real-world money.
Needless to say, the Black Ops 4 community is very upset. Here’s the front page of the Black Ops 4 subreddit now:
Take note that there are more threads that state the same thing, but you get the gist. Here’s some of the most upvoted threads in it, and what the community is saying:
Blackjacks stashes seriously? P2W BR is a death sentence from Blackops4
Good God Treyarch. This has turned into amateur hour. from Blackops4
There’s a lot more threads and comments that are very, very upset with how Treyarch has seemingly made one out of touch decision after another. In case you didn’t know, the last patch before today also introduced pay-to-win elements into multiplayer, which, unfortunately, isn’t new for the studio.

Will Treyarch change this? I’m hoping they do, but given how often something like this happens, will players even care at this point — especially with Modern Warfare waiting in the wings.

Sure glad I never got into the game. This would and is a deal breaker for me. Aesthetics are one thing, but this is truly garbage.
lol wut, they actually did this? It’s as if developers/publishers are living in a rock.
Isn’t there a new COD coming out at the end of summer? Seems like a good way to get the player base to drop the old COD so they will buy the new COD
Is that a fuck you towards folks who bought it on Humble Bundle? That’s like “Yeah, the last one (HBM) fuck it up, blame them instead”
