Final Fantasy Creator Calls AI-Made FF6 Remake Video “Amazing,” Gets Criticized by SaGa Creator
While many people believe AI-generated content hurts creativity and takes work away from real artists, it does not seem to be the case for Final Fantasy creator.
Hironobu Sakaguchi has recently reacted very positively to a fan-made AI video showing what a modern remake of Final Fantasy VI could look like.
The problem is that the entire video was created using generative AI, which quickly started a big debate online and even brought another famous Square Enix developer into the discussion.
Final Fantasy Creator Reacts to AI-Generated FF6 Remake Video
Sakaguchi responded to the AI-made video on X by saying, “What is this!? It’s amazing!” His reaction quickly led to many comments on the post.
Some people saw this as another example of how AI-generated content can even surprise the developers. Others joked about the situation, while some pointed out how useful this technology could be for creating concept videos that help shape a final product.
However, one of the most interesting reactions came from Akitoshi Kawazu, the creator of SaGa. He replied directly to Sakaguchi by saying, “No Sakaguchi, please stop after the first line,” asking him not to praise AI-generated content like this.
Kawazu also shared a small story about meeting an American MIT graduate in a restaurant. During their conversation, the person mentioned loving Final Fantasy VI and especially the character Mash. Kawazu also added that he believes FF6 would work very well as a full 3D remake.
Final Fantasy VI was originally released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo and quickly became one of the most loved games in the series. Even today, many players still hope to see a remake of the game, although nothing has officially been announced so far.
In other AI news, a Google executive has claimed that almost all major game studios are now using generative AI in some form during development, although not every company openly admits it.
