PlayStation Japan Missed the Memo That Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Is Not a PS5 Exclusive
At this month’s Summer Game Fest, host Geoff Keighley ended the show by not only revealing the third — and concluding — chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 remake games, titled Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but also confirming that it’ll be released day-and-date on all platforms and not just the PS5.
It seems someone at PlayStation Japan might have missed the memo about the game’s platform exclusivity (or lack thereof).
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Mentioned as PS5 Exclusive by PlayStation Japan
Over on X (formerly Twitter), the official PlayStation Japan account tweeted, “『FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION』 Coming spring 2027, exclusively for PS5®.”
Unless something changed that we don’t know of, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is not exclusive to the PS5, as it will simultaneously be available on Sony’s console as well as the Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC versions.
Given how Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 were both PS5-exclusive when they were released and didn’t meet commercial expectations, it’s a no-brainer for Square Enix to release the third game on all platforms simultaneously.
Unless PlayStation Japan means FF7 Revelation won’t be released on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 in Japan? Which we know will happen. It’s a minor quibble, but it’s still funny to see nonetheless.
Don’t be surprised if this tweet is deleted soon.
Console exclusivity has been a hot topic as of late, as Microsoft seemingly pulled Gears of War: E-Day from release on the PS5 at the last minute, a claim the division’s VP of marketing has denied.
In other RPG news, Kingdom Hearts 4’s teaser has been released by Square Enix, and there’s also a Kingdom Hearts Collection releasing later this year.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be released sometime in spring 2027 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC.
