The Blood of Dawnwalker “Smaller, Free” DLCs Planned by Devs; Over 1.5 Million Wishlists Already

While developer Rebel Wolves hasn’t announced any post-launch expansions for The Blood of Dawnwalker (yet), that doesn’t mean the studio plans to stop updating the game when it’s released.

On the contrary, the developers are already thinking of a roadmap for the game, even if it’s a single-player, narrative-driven RPG.

At the very least, players can expect free DLC to be released during the game’s lifecycle.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Free DLC Confirmed

In an interview with the Polish business site PAP Biznes, Rebel Wolves CEO Konrad Tomaszkiewicz talked about the game’s future. While we already know the studio is planning to make sequels set in different eras and cultures, Tomaszkiewicz also shared our first confirmation of DLC.

The studio COE mentioned that they are currently focusing on refining the RPG as much as possible before the planned September release schedule, while creating a “schedule of smaller, free DLC,” though no binding decisions on this have been made about it yet.

Tomaszkiewicz said, “As for whether there will be add-ons immediately or not at all, we have recently started talks on this topic so as to plan a roadmap and timeline of smaller, free add-ons, but we have not yet made a decision.”

This is definitely good news, though bear in mind, DLC doesn’t automatically mean story expansions, as Tomaszkiewicz can mean smaller drops such as clothes, hair styles, new weapons, or any of the sort, which is what we saw from CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3 — a game Tomaszkiewicz directed.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Early Pre-Sale Data Is Looking Good So Far

While the studio CEO is already planning sequels, it doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing. In the same interview, Tomaszkiewicz talked about it and said, “Our goal is that after the premiere, the cash balance in the company’s account will allow us to release a sequel and further develop the company. If after the debut of the game it turns out that these financial results are better, we will definitely be happy. Secondly, for us at Rebel Wolves, the most important thing is that the company is a safe haven that rewards creativity.”

Neither the studio nor the game’s publisher, Bandai Namco Entertainment, has provided figures on pre-orders, but Tomaszkiewicz did confirm he is happy with the game’s pre-sale. “Although I think it’s just as important, if not more important for us, to have about 1.5 million wishlist signs, which is a better metric for us, because players tend to be reluctant to make pre-order purchases, often waiting for extensive and in-depth reviews,” Tomaszkiewicz mentioned.

Given the game’s pedigree, we’re hoping it achieves the same level of success as The Witcher 3 or perhaps surpasses it. Hopefully, the action-RPG is a hit, and we’ll get to see the birth of a new franchise before our very eyes.

In other news related to the game, it’s been confirmed that players can drastically reduce the game’s runtime by going after the final boss right after the prologue, though it won’t be easy.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to be released on September 3 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
