PS5 Update 26.04-13.42.00

Heads up, PlayStation gamers! Sony has released a new firmware patch on July 1, and this is a minor system update.

Console owners will be able to download it now as PS5 update 26.04-13.42.00, and it clocks in at around 1.2 GB.

Given this is an unannounced system patch, don’t expect anything major from it.

PS5 Firmware Updated on First Day of July 2026

Per Sony, today’s update: “We’ve improved system software performance and stability.” We can’t get enough of that stability, right?

In all seriousness, these things usually handle backend security breaches and exploits, and something Sony doesn’t usually share the details of. Nonetheless, expect your PS5 to be more stable after today’s update.

While Sony hasn’t talked about the next major system update for the console, the company has hinted at the next-gen PlayStation we’re assuming will be called the PS6. Sony hinted at the rumored next-gen being portable, but also said it’s “not realistic” for them to absorb the cost of component increases, suggesting the PS6 will be an expensive upgrade.

If that’s not something you’d want to hear from PlayStation, then we have more bad news. Despite the failure of Concord, Sony has said they are continuing to pursue live service games.

One thing the electronics giant isn’t pursuing anymore is single-player, first-party games on PC. Don’t expect these to appear anytime soon on other platforms unless it’s a live service product.

If there are any hidden features or additions from this firmware, we’ll let our readers know.
